It’s tough to take a picture of the back of your leg.
About 3 1/2 weeks ago I was bitten by a tick. Since then the bite has been itchy and red like a huge mosquito bite. I feel sure I’m fine because I got the tick off minutes after it attached, but still, it’s miserable.
It makes me wonder. Back when I was bitten by a tick and developed Lyme Disease, how on earth did I miss something this big and red and itchy? I never suspected I had the disease because I was unaware I’d been used as a dinner service by a gross insect.
Just keep that thing away from me, will ya? Dogs really don’t like the “T” word.

Tick bites are so awful. I hope you recover soon.
Thanks!
(Do you know how long the itching lasts? I’m ready for this one to be done by now. 🙄)
I have had more than my share of tick bites since we moved here, and I have never known the itching to last longer than a day at most. Having already had Lyme disease might make you respond differently.
I’ll see if my doctor has any suggestions. Thanks!
The itching usually last about a week, but can last much longer if you have an allergic reaction. To help with the itching, you can put ice on the bite. Another home remedy is mixing baking soda with water and putting the paste on the bite. Some people have success dealing with the itching by using an activated charcoal poultice. Witch Hazel might help.
Ooh witch hazel! I have some of that.
Maybe I am having an allergic reaction to this bite. That might explain why it is so persistent and itchy.
Also, if there are some mouth parts in the bites, it will be itchy as well.
I read that if you remove an attached tick it can make things worse if you’re allergic. Oh, great to know now! 😆.
The ice ended up helping enough that I could get to sleep.
I am so glad the ice helped.
Is this how it looks right now? If so, and it has been 3 1/2 weeks, I would ask for a test to be sure. Sometimes, after an infection, you might react differently.
Do you mean a second Lyme test? I wasn’t sure how the markers would show in my blood since I’ve had it before. Thanks for the suggestion!
they should make frontline for people
Or at least a Credelio.
ITS COS NOT ALL TICS ARE BIG !! DEER AND SHEEP TICKS ARE BIGG BUT COM IN SMALLER SIZES FROM PIN HEAD TO 5 PIN HEAD ETC ALL THE BITES ARE ITCHY
WE HAVE ZILLIONS HERE THE WHOLE AREA IS BLACK OAK AND COTTON TREES AND LOTS OF OTHERS. ITS RARE I WORK IN THE GARDEN AND DONT GET TICKED
I LOATH THEM BUT ITS PART OF LIVING AURALLY I CANT USE THE BUG SPRAY COS IT MAKES ME SICK !!
I CHECK OVER THE DOGS AND THE CATS DAILY AND THEY ALL HAVE TO TAKE MONTHLY BUG MEDS
Murphy gets the meds, and he is doing well. Toby got Anaplasmosis (asymptomatic) from a tick I never found. ☹️
I don’t remember being itchy or finding a swollen tick that first time. From Geordie I know the size and feel of deer ticks. I didn’t notice that at all.
How do you manage the ones that get on your back or in your hair? It’s tough to reach them sometimes.
I WEAR A HAT OUTDOORS IF I AM WORKING OUTSIDE COS OF THE HOLE AND CANYON IN MY SKULL I HAVE TO PROTECT MY HEAD SO !!!! I FIND THE TICS MOST EVERYWHERE ELSE ! SON AS I FEEL AN ITCH I INVEST5TIGATE IT !!!
I hate these stupid bugs. I wish they’d leave us alone! 😡
Oh, no! 😦 Ick! Ack! and Uck! I’m so sorry to hear about this! I hope you find some relief and healing soon!
I’ve had mosquito bites that caused itching horribly and caused pain. Something like Calamine lotion, and ice, always helps me.
I have a family member who found out she is allergic to flea bites…she has way more itching and pain than people who aren’t allergic.
Speaking of flea and tick…of course we gave little Coop his flea and tick meds every month. Sometimes, just to be silly, I’d call it “tea and flick” medicine and Coop would look at me like, “Wait. What? Geez, mom!” HA! 😉 😀
(((HUGS))) ❤️❤️❤️❤️
At least Coop took the medicine! Some pups are so stubborn about that. 😂.
I started looking up what an allergy to a tick bite is like, and that is sounding like what I’m experiencing. I hadn’t thought about it, but I’m allergic to spider bites, and both spiders and ticks are arachnids. Guess it’s not a surprise that I might be allergic to both.
Right now neither witch hazel nor calamine lotion is helping. Next up is the trusty ice bag! 😂
Hope you have a peaceful, bite-free evening!
The vet had Coop on flea and tick med and heartworm med that were chewable. If Coop heard me wrestling with the packages, Ha…he knew the sound…he’d come running to the kitchen and ate them eagerly and with glee. Then looked at me like, “More, please????”
🙂
Chewable? What kind did he take? So far Murphy isn’t fighting me, but it’s always good to know about a backup. 😊
Check out Chewy.com
They have several different brand of chewable flea and tick meds, and chewable heartworm meds.
All of these meds seem so expensive, but they kept Cooper healthy from fleas, ticks, heartworm for 16+ years.
See which ones are best for Murphy and what price is good.
Coop did great on them and loved eating them…like he was chomping down steak. Ha. 🙂
Steak? Maybe I’ll serve them for dinner! 😊
I seem to spend the entire rainy season checking the thugs for ticks, removing same and flushing them down the loo.Did try all the expensive tablets…but the ticks got through so it’s back to daily checks.
Sounds as if you have an allergic reaction…would checking with your doctor be a good idea?
I have a feeling he would just say to use hydrocortisone cream. I already have some, and it doesn’t do much. I can’t take oral steroids because they are made with corn. ☹️
Ugh, your water bill must be sky high flushing all those ticks!
😥
