My county was so desperate for poll workers that they put out appeals on the news and on Facebook. Civic minded me thought that I would volunteer. After talking to a representative from the Board of Elections, I found out that the job is a 14 hour shift. No wonder they are having trouble finding people able to work. There is no way I could put in a day that long.
It is disappointing how many things I am unqualified to do.
How about napping for 14 hours?
I bet you could do that.

My boys are still running amok, unsupervised, in the local museum. Are there any museums open right now? Ours show no signs of it.
If you would like to experience The Museum of the Imagination, pick up a copy of Dream Our World!
Dream Our World is available from Amazon.
What are they thinking??! They would get way more volunteers if they split the shifts. I couldn’t do 14 hours either.
I know. I was willing to put in an 8 hour day, but 14 is too much.
HUGSSSSSS
NO MUSEUMS OPEN HERE YET.
THR ELECTION BOARD… WELL I DID IT IN THE UK. YES… ITS A LONG DAY.. IN THE UK VOTING IS FROM 7AM TO 10AM !! 15 HOURS BUT IT GOES RPIIDLY COS THERE ARE ALL SORTS OF PEOPLE. THE TIME PASSES.
I HAVE WANTED TO DO IT HERE. I AM AN AMERICAN CITIZEN… BUT I HAVENT HEARD FROM THEM. THE FOLK AT OUR VOTING PLACE ARE MARVELOUS. GOOD PEOPLE.. HAPPY TO SHARE A SHORT CHAT AND SPREAD SOME HUMOUR.
HUGSSSSS
Maybe next election for both of us?
Aw. 😦
But, UGHS, that’s a l-o-n-g day! 😮
Eons ago, back in The Dark Ages, I used to volunteer in our county to clean up after the elections and do vote counting, etc. This happened at night after the polls closed. That I could do…as I had to work at my job during the day.
Cooper says he is down for the l-o-n-g nap! 😉 😛
(((HUGS))) for the UGHS!!!
Ah, if only we could get paid for those loooong naps!
Oh, yeah! Wouldn’t that be great!!! 😀
No wonder the county can’t find volunteer poll workers! 14 hours at a stretch is even longer than hospital shifts!
Oddly enough, I was talking to an ER doctor who said the same thing.
I was going to volunteer here and then I found that I’d have to be there at 6 am – umm, this kid is SO not a crack o’dawn person, that was totally not gonna work!
I have night blindness too. Having to drive both ways in the dark – while being fatigued- really spooked me. Come on. Give us shifts!
oh gosh, I didn’t even think of that! I probably would be okay because it’s back roads that I’m used to, but I don’t do well at night on roads I don’t know!
Could they have you split it with someone?
I feel like they should have been able to but for some reason they don’t.
