Yesterday was a day or horrors for my little guy. For the second time in a month, Toby stepped on a bee. Well, I’m presuming it was a bee. We were walking in some grass, not even near clover or other flowers, when Toby jumped and started waving his paw around. As soon as he got stung, he started vomiting and having diarrhea. I filled 6 bags full of puppy stuff before I could even get him turned around to head back home. He suffered like that for 4 – 4 1/2 before he finally fell asleep. It was not the day either of us had planned.
I stepped on one of these creatures about a year ago. Whatever the stinging thing is, it hides under the grass and gets you when you step on it. Most would say these are ground bees, but my understanding is that ground bees live underground, not that they hide in the grass.
The good news is that Toby seems to be feeling better today. He is a bit tired, and his appetite isn’t quite what it normally is, but he is much more chipper. I was just wondering if anyone knows what stinging thing might be lurking in our grass. Or, what ( if anything) can you do for a pup who is having a reaction like this. My human doctor seemed to feel that the only bee sting reaction you need to worry about his anaphylaxis. Is the same true for pups?

To find out what Toby likes to do when he is not suffering from being poisoned by nasty critters, pick up a copy of Dream Our World! Inside, Toby ad his big brother Geordie explore the world of art from a canine perspective and enjoy a day of unsupervised fun.
Dream Our World, and other fine gifts, are available from my shop at L Bowman Studios.
Oh dear, poor little guy! I have no idea what might have stung him. I’ve never heard of ground bees, so I guess we don’t have them here. I’d ask your vet, and the neighbors. Toby can’t be the only victim. I’m glad he seems to have recovered quickly. 🤗
Thank you for your good wishes for Toby! ❤️ I hope to find out what to do for him before this happens again.
HAVE A CHAT WITH OUR VET. HE MAY HAVE A PILL TOBY CAN HAVE AS SOON AS IT HAPPENS OR SOON AFTER TO DAMP DOWN THE REACTION
BUG HUGSS
I tried to give him a pill, but he refused anything solid until he was cleaned out. ☹️ That makes it tough to help the little guy.
Oh, no! Aw! Poor little Toby! (I’m crying!) It makes me so sad that he had to go through all of this! 😦
I’m so so SO glad he is feeling some better now.
Please give him some extra love and a treat from me and Cooper! ❤️
There is a lot on-line about dogs and stinging insects. Here is just one…

I would always check with my vet to see what they recommend.
(((HUGS))) for you, as I know those of us adopted by pooches we hurt when they hurt. ❤️
PS…I accidentally stepped on a wasp once at a pool. That hurt! 😮 I started looking down more after that!
Ooh, thank you for the link! I can’t wait to learn more. (I had to stop going barefoot because of all the bees I’ve stepped on. 🙄)
You’re welcome! ❤️ There’s a lot of links out there.
(Yes, I can relate.)
I called Toby’s vet today and learned a bit more about what to do. Looks like we’ll have to make a trip to the store for some OTC treatments to keep on hand. After talking to the doctor, I am feeling more confident. The link you sent was a huge help when I talked to them!
Good! so so SO glad to hear all of this!!! ❤️❤️
Poor little guy, Chester sends his best thoughts your way.
Thank you! 💕
Poor little man…and so worrying when you can’t find a way to help him. Hope the treatments work.
Thank you! ❤️
Poor Toby, I hope he is feeling better. Damn the bess
Darn these hiding-in-the-grass bees, anyway!
Benadryl – dogs can take it. It’s like so many milligrams based on weight, so maybe a half pill for him?
I tried repeatedly, but he wouldn’t let me give him the pill. The vet recommended liquid Benedryl (without xylitol) with an oral syringe. She said that if even a little gets in him, it should help to alleviate the symptoms.
I have an oral syringe that I got at CVS in the kid’s medicine section- open mouth and squirt! Well worth the couple dollars I paid. If you can get it between his teeth and push the plunger he’s bound to swallow some
I have one of those on my shopping list. Soon my evil puppy shall be protected! 😆
Poor Toby! I hope he can avoid getting stung again.
Thank you! Us too. (I’m still trying to find some liquid Benedryl just in case my boy is unlucky.) 🍀
