All summer I have been watching fawn twins grow up. I’ve caught them frolicking in the fog and sunning themselves in the middle of the day. (Unusual because deer are crepuscular.) This day, while Toby and I were out making a nut deposit, we caught them watching us. This is the first time I’ve had a camera with me when we’ve seen them. They are so much more mature than when we first met.
What’s that yappy little thing saying? Something about venison?

That’s where Toby goes to do his business? That’s lovely! And includes wildlife. All we have here is concrete, crows and little patches of grass.
We have to walk a ways to get to this spot, but yes it is lovely. I hope it is a long time before it is turned into condos.

almost every night when we come home from daycare, there are at least 6 deer in our front field. They just watch me drive down the driveway, very slowly. I call them my kids, we think they come to us because we don’t allow hunting on our land so they know they’re safe

There have always been deer here – there are too many to keep track of individuals but there are some who give us signs – they know theyโre all safe
