No, I didn’t trade Toby in on a green-sweater-clad feline, but I did think about it.
Toby had a grooming session at the beginning of the month. Afterward, he could no longer hide the fact that Gma had been slipping him goodies over the holidays. Now he is on a diet, and he just howls and howls for food.
Toby, pre-furcut.
Toby, post-furcut.
Toby howling for food.
Evidently Toby didn’t do much better on his second visit to the groomer than he did on his first. The woman working with him said that he hates the blow dryer so much that he fought and fought her about it. By the time she was done drying him he was thoroughly exhausted and fell asleep. She had to put him in a sling in order to reach to trim his paws and tummy. Who would guess that such a sweet-faced little guy could cause so much trouble?
While Toby’s year started off with grooming and a diet, mommy’s started with two broken teeth, a broken car and a pair of broken glasses. Yay 2022.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, you can still pick up copies of Dream Our World. Inside, Bitey and Toby have a fantastic adventure as they visit the museum of their dreams and view the world of art from a canine perspective.
Dream Our World is available from my shop at L Bowman Studios.
OHHHHHHHHHH TOBY
YOUR BEAUTIFUL FUR WILL GROW BACK!!!
Mommy says my big tummy likely will too. – Toby
Poor Toby….is this why he dislikes being groomed? Reveals his little secrets?
But are you all right? That list sounds nasty.
Toby has some sort of sensitivities that other dogs don’t. He can’t stand for anyone to touch his sides or his paws. It makes grooming him tough, to put it mildly.
As for me, I’m being held together with chewing gum and string until I can get some repair appointments – a few months from now.
Amazing how canine welfare – well I know he doesn’t think of it like this – comes before human…
I rarely get help for health issues, but Stinkymonster goes to the vet regularly. (I somehow doubt he appreciates it.)
No, I imagine not! We had a chap years ago who would do the cartoon’ paws on the doorframe’ thing when taken to see a vet
😂😂😂😂
Grrr, I can’t let mom answer my posts…she is such an airhead.
Yes, you’ve got it exactly! If that groomer hadn’t cut off all my fur, I would still be enjoying table scraps and not having to eat boring kibble.
Poor Toby! Can he have rice cakes? Our vet recommended plain rice cakes as treats when Max was a tad on the cubby side. Throw a piece of meat in the bag with them and they soak up the flavor.
Ooh, rice cakes are a great idea! Well, to me. I am sure Toby will have an opinion on them. Maybe I’ll put some stinky fish in with them to give them a good, strong scent.
I used to put venison baloney in with them. Max thought it was wonderful! Just make sure you get plain rice cakes. Max was 112 lbs at one point because of his wonky thyroid. Maverick had never gone past 75 lbs because food is boring. I need to go on the Maverick diet!
I could use that diet too. ☹️
He eats when there’s nothing better to do and some days he eats very little. I used to worry but he’s healthy- he just eats only when he’s hungry.
Geordie was like that. He just ate when he was hungry. I left food in his bowl for whenever he felt like eating. Toby on the other paw….he’ll climb the furniture to reach a crumb.
Same here with Max and Maverick. Max wanted his food NOW. We once dogsat for a friend who told me the dog was a “free feeder.” I laughed and said Max would consider any good left out as a free lunch. Maverick will eat a bit, go play, come back and eat more.
I have a friend looking for a remote position as either an academic advisor or an academic coach after she was downsized from her university. By any chance, might your school be looking for someone like this?
Thank you so much! 🐶
It’s possible! Tell her to go to HACC.edu and check “jobs.” I know they’re always looking for advisors.
Thank you so much!!
Wait a minute…broken teeth? Broken car? Wassup with that? Are you OK? Sounds like a car crash…As to Tobester, perhaps he’s a little chonky but now there’s more of him to…love.
Fortunately these are all just coincidences (although I did break the car in the parking lot at the dentist’s)
Toby is thrilled to agree that now there is more of him to love!!!.
You look stunning. Keep fighting for the anti-grooming resistance army
I want it to be the 70’s again where being natural ruled! – Toby
Aw, poor Toby! 😦 It makes me sad to think he’s howling for food.
I give Coop the same amount of his dog food every day…now I just divide it out into several small meals and into a couple of even smaller snacks…he seems to be enjoying eating more often, just doesn’t know he’s not getting any more food than before. Ha. I am tricking him! 😮 And so far so good. On his last vet visit he had lost 5 lbs. 🙂 Oh, and he has a wacky thyroid. 😦
Oh, my! Poor you! 😦 All of that sounds awful. I hope everything can be fixed soon.
I know all of that is expensive. 😦
(((HUGS))) to you!
PATS and RUBS to Toby!
Don’t feel too bad for the little butterball. He howls for everything. Breaking meals up into smaller portions sounds like a good idea. I bet Toby would enjoy that. I have been making sure he gets as much exercise as possible too, so hopefully he’ll be a healthier weight again soon.
I, too, am hoping things can be both fixed and paid for. So far it has been an expensive start to the new year. 💵
Cooper rarely howls, but he has a pathetic little whimper that is heart-breaking. Ha! 😀 Moves some people faster than it moves me. 😉
Yes, too expensive. 😦
Toby is doing the pathetic whimper thing right now. He wants to back to sleep in the laundry, but mom is being firm about himbstaying in his kennel.
I think Toffee is getting tubby, but Don disagrees, and we can’t get an accurate reading on our bathroom scale. Don is usually the one who feeds him. I ask him to cut back, but it’s a losing battle. 😏
Oh gosh, this sounds like me and my folks. I ask them not to sneak him food – and they promise they won’t – then they tell me they only gave him a little of this and a little of that. 🙄. I wish you luck with this battle.
Sadly, this one was lost long ago, on a different battlefield named Hershey. If the vet tells him there’s a problem, then he’ll listen. But I don’t know when that will be. Next set of shots…
If only one of you can go in with Toffee on his next visit, you know whom to send! (Around here humans still aren’t allowed inside.)
We’re not allowed inside either. But our vet comes outside to talk to us, so at least we can get some questions answered.
You’re lucky. We have to talk on the phone from the car, and it is almost impossible to hear. ☹️
My niece the vet tech doesn’t see things changing any time soon… 😕
Broken glasses, teeth, and car? That sounds serious! I hope you are okay now! Toby is cute as always.
I’m OK, but I’m so much debt!! 💵 😧
I am glad you’re okay. I am so sorry about the debt. I always hated going into debt.
We need some good lottery tickets. 😂
I tried that, to bad it didn’t work!
🍀🍀🍀 Maybe this will help!
Fingers crossed!🤞
