How Can I Be Conflicted?

How can I be conflicted about getting a new dog? What does it say about me as a person – as a dog mom – that I haven’t already brought home a little beast?

Without the schedule restrictions of a fur family, I have been able to work more, and I really enjoy it. (But what do I do with all the money I earn? I put it in a fund toward adopting a pup.). When I cook, I cry because there is no one at my feet hoovering up my crumbs. On the other hand, it has been really wonderful sleeping through the night without being awakened by insane barking.

So many of my friends tell of stopping to adopt a pup on the way home from having to let one go. So what’s wrong with me?

What’s wrong with you?Where shall I start?

Toby’s Gotcha Day

Happy Gotcha Day, Toby!

Toby: Gotcha Day? Geordie" Yes, the day you were adopted. Toby: I'm adopted? But I always thought i looked like Mom!

Poor Toby got cheated in the special day department.  His birthday falls near Christmas, and his Gotcha Day is on Valentine’s Day.   He ends up sharing his celebrations with other events instead of having a time all to himself.

Sympathy gifts might help me feel better.  I like tennis balls, stuffies and treats. (I wouldn’t say no to a pot roast, either.)

Two Cairn terriers on a cold day

This is a picture of Toby arriving home for the first time.  You can see in Geordie’s body language, he is saying, “Please, Grandma, get me out of this!”

Seriously.  What is that thing?  A hamster?!?

Can you find the teeny tiny puppy hidden in this picture?

Adoptable Hershey

Hershey, an adoptable Chocolate Labrador Retriever Mix in Alcoa, TN

A friend of mine is in need of a good home. His name is Hershey, and he is an active, healthy, young male pup of possibly lab or Vizsla heritage.  He is a bit too active for his older, smaller siblings and is looking for a new home where he can play and play and play.

I hope I am not breaking any rules by posting a link to his adoption site here, but I wanted to help spread the word about him.  Hershey’s site.

Hershey and his brother and sister play online with Geordie and Toby, so I have known his family for a while.  They are good pups and peeps and only want the best for this little boy.  If you would like to share his story on social media, that would be great.

Hershey wants to go for long walks too!
