I once walked Max – who weighed 110 lbs – and Thunder the Cocker Spaniel – who weighed 30, together. It was a contest as to which one pulled the hardest. Currently both shoulders are in a state of decay because of one adorable Rocket Man, who not only pulls, but does a sudden “OH MY GOD, IT’S A LEAF!” move as he rockets towards it.
Toffee does the same thing, for birds (okay, understandable, he’s a spaniel) and for leaves (leaves? REALLY???!!). I feel the effects in my elbow. ::sigh::
Leaves are apparently sent by Satan and must be attacked and destroyed immediately!

Geordie used to wait until I was standing on ice before he did his best sudden pulls. Most of my injuries were from landing rather than the pulling. (And yet we love ‘em to death.❤️)
I am better but I’m seeing my chiropractor this week – my shoulders are wrecked. It’s been too cold to practice walking – it’s just poop and be done! Class starts in 2 weeks- pray for me!

We had a Fauve de Bretagne – escaped from a puppy mill – who loved to walk, until she didn’t at which point I had to pick up the huge lump and strugge home with her. I tried predicting the length of walk deemed acceptable, but failed miserably. Somewhere there is a photo of us en route for home, her beaming contented face and my contorted one.

That sounds like Geordie! People used to drive past yelling, “That’s not how you walk a dog!” It is if you want to get home in less than six hours.

🤗 Have you ever tried one of those jogging leashes that you attach around your waist? Or would Toby just pull you off your feet?
I have to be careful about social clues with Toby. I can’t let him walk in front of me or he starts getting nippy. For that reason, I’ve been afraid to try a jogging leash.
Ah, yeah that would be problematic. I’m guessing a head collar (like Gentle Leader) was also a fail? I tried that with Hershey for awhile. Forget why I stopped… 🤷🏼♀️
What seems to work for us is a pinch collar and making sure Toby never walks ahead of me. I tried Gentle Lead style leashes with Geordie, but his nose was so short that he would just knock it off his face with his paw and then grin at me.

Maybe the next dog who adopts me will be a Great Dane or a Bernese Mountain Dog or a Anatolian Shepherd. Then he can carry me on his back when we go for walks. HA! 😉 😮 😀
