Murphy’s Tale Goes On

So, would you like eto go for a walk or something? If it's all the same to you, I'd prefer to stay indoors.

*

Oh that's right. You spent your whole life in a cage. You probably don't feel comfortable outside. Actually, I didn't live my whole life in that cage. The rescue thought I did, and that's what they told mom.

*

You didn't? Then where did you live? At first, I lived in a really nice house like you have.

*

My mpmmy was an older lady, and I'm pretty sure I remember a kitty cat at our house. I used to have a bed of my own, but at night I woiuld sleep in the big bed and snuggle under the covers with our mom.

*

Sh used to hold my treats between her index finger and thumb as she handed them to me.

*

Since mommy was older, I didn't get out much. Still, life was happy until that one fateful day....

*

Oh no! What happened? I don't know for sure because nobody tells the pets, but one day mommy wasn't there anymore. People put us furs in cages and took us away. I ended up at the hoarder's house. I don't know where the others went.

*

Is that where your tail got hurt? Did they break your tail? Nah, I'm OK. It's just that my tail is pretty long. When I was confined, I sat on it too much and made it bend kind of funny.

*

Dang, this guy makes me feel like the most spoiled dog in the world. I hate to say it, but even i am starting to like him.

*

At first, I just thought this was a cute picture, but when I looked at it closer, I could see that Murphy was lost in thought. I know he remembers his first family. I feel so bad that he misses them. All I can do is surround him with love and make sure that he builds tons of happy memories from now on.

I remember….

How did you learn all that about his past? I must have missed a post. Anyway, that will help a lot as you two get better acquainted. He doesn’t know, yet, what a bed of roses he’s landed in! And you deserve a Good Dog!

A lot of this is guesswork based on either how Murphy behaves or things he’s shown me since he got here. The rescue told me he wasn’t housebroken, but after a few days it was obvious he had some training. I haven’t noticed mill behavior in him, so I’m guessing he wasn’t at the hoarder house for too long. And Murphy just adores little old ladies, so I’m guessing his first mom was an older lady. ❤️. As long as he’s happy now!

Awww…, poor puppy dog. How old is Murphy estimated to be?

You bring up indirectly a valid and realistic, albeit somewhat dark topic in this post, as well I’ve noticed it has arisen in other posts in the past: how exactly should our fur children go on if we aren’t there? The appropriate plans, funding and who to rely on to take up this mission. I’ve made very specific plans after my immediate passing and for the long-term future. Most people will respond in the affirmative if ask to take up this task of responsibility, love and commitment (no one wants to look like a flaky jerk), but the fact is when the rubber hits the road the majority of those people will bail out as fast as the blink of an eye. It’s a very serious topic and everyone with a beloved pet needs to consider what will become of our pups.

I do though think that Murphy will come around. How long was he living with the hoarder(s)? That had to have been just awful to suffer in a cage in an environment with filthy garbage people. I really want to have compassion for these people, but forgive me… today is not the day for that.

No one is sure how old Murphy is. Originally the rescue thought he was older, but I think he was just in poor health. The vet’s guess is less than five, possibly three or four.

I have two dog lovers lined up to take care of Murphy should something happen. I hope to take care of him for the rest of his life so he doesn’t have another experience like he already did. 😢. We do our best to plan, but sometimes life happens anyway.
