The thought of my overcrowded bookshelf weighed heavily on my mind, yet it was painful to consider giving away something as significant as a book. Still, I forced myself to start the difficult task and set aside a few volumes that I no longer needed.
Then I woke up.
Crap!!!

So sometimes you dream of the devil, and sometimes you dream about cleaning bookshelves? (Humans are so weird.)

A book everyone should have on their shelves is Dream Our World! Inside, Bitey and Toby visit the museum of their dreams as they view the world of art from a canine perspective.
Dream Our World and other fine gifts are available from my shop at L Bowman Studios.

When I was younger, my dream was to own one of those giant dictionaries on a stand like libraries have. Of course, it would go best in a room like the one you described! 📖
Blue puppy😂 Chesters favorite!
Blue Puppies are awesome. 😆❤️
I remember the old subscription library in Norwich…..books, armchairs and a fire!
A fire too? That must have been a great reading room!
It was gorgeous…a gallery all round on the first floor and that wonderful smell of old books!
Admit it, Helen…you remember hieroglyphics were the ink was still fresh.
I’ll have to wait until I am really old before childhood memories return….I’m still on middle age ones at present….
Huh. I thought all your books were on their original clay tablets and written in ancient Sumerian glyphs.
😂. They are, but I put covers on them so they pass for western style tomes!
I have more books than anyone probably should, but that doesn’t stop me from adding to the pile. The TBR pile was around 250 the last time I counted. 🙂 I have a very hard time giving away a book, although I’ve gotten better – if I didn’t love it, I can part with it. Books make me feel safe. I can escape the world in a book. I grew up across the street from the library – it was my second home till I moved away. Books have always been a huge part of my life. Don’t let anyone tell you you need to get rid of them.
My problem is that I am having an increasingly difficult time reading them. Otherwise I would probably have a TBR list like yours. 😊
I’m sorry 😢
I am learning to like documentaries on TV instead. Some of them are very interesting!
I get sucked into those too! I love true crime stories 😁
I’ve been watching science and math as well as crime shows. To heck with the writers’ strike!
I watch history stuff too.
Sadly, we are living in a moment where books are devalued and are even being taken out of circulation and “revised.” This is no time to get rid of them, unless you REALLY trust the recipient. I’m like everyone here, I have hundreds of books I’ll never read, but each is a treasure to me.
Maybe all I need are more bookshelves! 😂
There you go! You really can’t have too many bookshelves!
😆
Books represent a small sliver of our lives, like part of our souls.
That makes it extra hard to part with them.
I can relate!
Books have always been one of the life-blood things of living to me. I love books! I’ve always had too many. Ha! Even my dresser drawers that should’ve held clothes…are full of books, as are all the bookshelves in our home. 😮 😀 Books are hard to let go of…but…
about three years ago, I sorted through them all and donated some to family members, libraries and thrift stores. I do hope someone else will enjoy them and find meaning, or just joy, in reading them. 🙂

Ha! Cooper has a blue dog…one of his first, and still fave, toys! 🙂
(((HUGS))) ❤️💙❤️
Years ago, people used to buy books, read them then box them up and give them to someone else who would then read them and pass them along. I ended up on several of these chains, and I had TONS of books around. I had them stored under furniture, in boxes, stacked in corners. It got so bad that I couldn’t find ones that I wanted, and I totally gave up trying to dust them. Finally I donated several (OK, many) boxes to the library, and it felt really good. I hoped that someone else would find joy in them as well.
With how handy the internet is, I find myself going there rather than grabbing my old reference books. I’m conflicted how much of the old ways I should hold onto and how much I should take advantage of technology to help keep a cleaner house. 🤷♀️
I am happy to hear that Toby isn’t the only pup to adore Blue Puppies!
I understand. I still like holding a book in my hand, tracing my fingers over the binding, looking at and reading the paper cover (if it has one) even smelling the book. 🙂 I will be SUPER sad for the day (I hope it never comes ) when book-books are a thing of the past.
Thanks to my elbows, I can’t hold a tablet for any length of time, and a lit screen really bothers my eyes. I hope that for the time I remain in this world books are a part of it. 📖 📕 📚 Even if I can’t keep every one I’ve read, I like to do recreational reading on paper.
❤️
It was incredibly hard for us to give up our books for the RV lifestyle. We gave them to friends, coworkers and donated the rest to the library for the whale of a sale. The books that we would read again, we bought an electronic version. My paper cookbooks are in storage. I could only give a few up.
This sounds so familiar. I know I need to get rid of things just for ease of use/cleaning, but it us so hard to give myself permission to let go. I know that by giving up a thing, I am not being disloyal to the person who gave it to me, but it sure feels that way. 😢
Nox wants to know about blue puppy. Is blue puppy a toy she would enjoy?
Blue Puppy is great! You can toss him and roll him, and when you feel tired, you can rest your head on him. Sometimes when I have to pee, I’ll take Blue Puppy outside and set him on the grass so he can go too. – Toby
Blue Puppy sounds great! Nox wants us to get her one now.
I think they can be “adopted” from WallyWorld! 😊
Thanks! I’ll take a look there.
I tried once to get rid of books – even boxed a few up – but just couldn’t do it..
It’s unreal how hard it is to give away books. When I’ve been successful, I’ve told myself I’m sharing them. That made things easier.
