Seriously? Do you realize how much time you’ve wasted drawing this stupid thing just to make fun of me for needing a coat?

My Cairn boys were built for winter. In fact they didn’t like any temperature above 55′. Murphy, despite his long, luxurious fur, is a summer guy. The poor little thing nearly froze to death when our temps dropped this week.
Unfortunately, the coat that fits him best is a pink hand-me-down. I keep trying to tell him it is light red, but he insists that even he is not that colorblind. Hmm, maybe Santa will have a new coat on the sleigh for Murphy…
I may be partially colorblind, but I can still smell girl dog on this coat.

What have I ever done to give you that impression?
Actually, a number of people have commented that they think Murphy might not have perfect vision. Starvation can affect the eyes, so it is possible. To me it is funny that he never seems to recognize me in a hat even though I wear them all the time.
I dunno…I think my glasses look good on him!

While taking pictures off my camera, I noticed that Doogie had a lot of qualities we see in most politicians.
He is willing to blame others.
He claim other’s things as his own.
He’s been caught fooling around on film.
He likes to conduct business in the dark.
He’ll turn his back on family and friends if it suits his needs.
He’s willing to let others pull his strings.
With these qualifications, surely someone will designate him as our next candidate!

I wasn’t sure what would happen if I let Murphy into the garden. Sadly, I created a monster. Now that he knows food comes from there, he wants to go all the time. It wouldn’t be such an issue if he didn’t get a barely passing score from the vet at his last visit. Chubby Chorkie here needs to be careful of his calories.

Thanks to Murphy’s sad origin story, he gets pretty much whatever he wants which in this case means a lot of time sniffing overripe tomatoes. (If only his manly dog scent would scare the bunnies away.)

Doogie was small enough that he didn’t mind standing on Murphy when he wanted to reach something. Given the hot weather, Murphy may have objected to his living Ushanka.

I guess Murphy’s uncle got tired of everyone speculating about what kind of dog Murphy is and sent us this.

To me, Murphy resembles an Australian Terrier.
My mom thinks he looks like a Norfolk Terrier.
Google thinks he looks like a Yorkie.
I guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks if any of us guessed right.

Poor little Murphy – as if life hadn’t handed him enough challenges – suffered such extreme malnutrition when he was trapped in the hoarders’ house that he now has heart damage. When I took him for his first vet visit and handed over the paperwork from the rescue, the vet asked where the rest of it was. What? This is what they gave me. The vet said that Murphy’s heart damage was pretty severe and that the rescue had to have known. She was upset that they withheld the information and let me adopt a sick dog without realizing it. I would have still adopted him, but at least I would have known more about what sort of future he might have and what his medical costs might be.
On top of heart disease, Murphy also has high blood pressure. (“How do they know he has high blood pressure?” you may ask. Turns out the answer is “itty bitty blood pressure cuff”.) He’s not on blood pressure medication, but I do have to make sure he doesn’t eat foods with salt. Sadly that means no pizza for Murphy. I can tell he’s had it in the past and really, really, really wants more, but I can’t let him have it. Instead he gets dried beets with his dinner which is supposed to help with blood pressure. I wish I could do even more for my little guy. It brings me so much joy to watch him smile and get the zoomies……but then he coughs.
The same company that makes Life Gold that I gave Geordie for his cancer also makes a supplement to help pets with heart issues. I started Murphy on that, but I can’t tell if it has made a difference. We don’t have a follow-up visit with the vet until late summer, so it will be a while before we get feedback
Please? Please may I have some pizza? I’ve been such a good boy.
