It’s Cooold Outside!

January 7th 2014 4:38 pm

This morning, when it was still super cold out (around -12), I asked Geordie if he wanted me to put his coat on him before we went outside. He said yes and actually stood still for me to put it on him. When I opened the door, he flew outside and pooped right away. (Trust me, that is a rarity for him!)

This evening, he came to me again, asking to go out. I asked him about wanting to wear his coat, and he said yes. (His fur still isn’t very thick after losing so much of it to his flea bite allergies. Baldie!) I took him out, and he ran across the snow to do a big pee. Afterwards, I tried to get him to come inside right away, but he said no. This usually means he has to poo, so I tried to walk him around a bit. Unfortunately, it was too cold for him, and he started to curl up into a ball. You can see the pain on his little face when this happens! I grabbed the nearest paw to see if it needed to be thawed, but it wasn’t icy like they usually are when he cringes like this. I tried to get him to run for the house again, but he kept saying that he had to poo. Oh dear! My poor guy had to go, but he couldn’t stand to be on the ground to do it!

Finally I picked him up and brought him back inside. My thought was to warm him up until he could go out quickly and take care of business. Then I remembered those boots I bought him a long time ago. I asked if he wanted “socks”, and he said yes, so I dug them out. He actually didn’t fight me when I put them on him, and when we went outside, he acted as if he were totally comfortable. He walked around a little while, then he did his business and did that scratch dance thing afterwards. He didn’t want to come in right away because he wanted to bark at a neighbor’s car. What a difference it made when my boy was warm! Thank heavens it isn’t going to be this cold again tomorrow. We should be able to go back to our normal, wardrobe routine.

It Started With The Twins…

Last year my niece had twins. I wanted to make something nice for them, so I chose little dresses and cardigans. When I finished with the outfits, there was still some yarn and ribbon leftover. That led to this:

I used the yarn and ribbon and some fabric from my stash to make these. They were donated to the church to help new mothers in need.

Murphy sitting in sunshine

You’re lucky I’m a good boy or I would have chewed up those dinosaurs.

My motives were not entirely altruistic, however. I counted the materials I used in my One Thing Each Day challenge.

I know some of you have wondered what happened to us. Murphy is fine. Me not so much. In extremely rare cases, psoriasis can go to the eyes. I can’t win even a scratch off lottery ticket, but somehow I can do this.

Anyway, right now the glare from computer screens is too much for me for more than a few minutes at a time, so I can’t do Bitey Dog (or do online banking or file taxes. Eek!). As soon as I feel better, we’ll be back to telling bitey stories! 😊

Sharks are Cool

Why are you wearing booties to swim? Did you lose a bet?

*

See? They have sharks on them.

*

Sharks ar cool, right? Of course they are. They're so cool they're practically penguins.

*

Do you mean Burgess Meredith "Penguin" or Robin Lord Taylor? How do you know about them? Duh. We TV at my other house too. Honestly, I don't know why I hang around with your guys!

*

I don’t really care what you wear as long as I don’t have to go along.

(So far Murphy hasn’t shown the enthusiasm for water that his brothers had.)

*

While this might seem like an odd topic, I was very nervous about going swimming again after having developed so many allergies/sensitivities. I was concerned that even with shower sandals, if I were walking across a floor where personal care items were draining, they might splash onto my skin and cause a reaction.

My solution is to wear aqua socks while in the shower room and in the pool, only changing out of them once I reach my locker. If you happen to be one of lucky few with MCAS, I wanted to let you know that this might be a choice to help keep safe in a locker room or pool. (Usually this condition doesn’t surface until your 20s, so hopefully high school swim class will already be behind you.) Aqua socks are made of neoprene, so water doesn’t go through them. As a plus, they give extra traction on slippery floors.

And even though I am the only nerd wearing them, I totally rock these aqua socks.
