Run, Toby, Run

*

Toby and I had a misadventure a couple of weeks ago. While on a walk, two large dogs woofed at Toby and scared him so badly that he bolted. He pulled me hard enough to knock me down and flip me over. I was stunned, and it took a few seconds for me to be able to move. In that time my little stinker pulled the leash off my wrist and ran away.

*

*

I landed hard on both hands and both knees. My knees were torn and bruised even through my clothes. This was one hand after cleaning out the abrasions. (I left a nice trail of blood along the way home.)

Unlike the last time I fell, kind people stopped to check on me while others went after Toby. He was so scared that he was over a quarter of a mile away – heading home as fast as his little terrier legs could carry him – before someone caught him.

*

I wasn’t scared. I was just being prudent.

Very rapidly.

*

Toby has always been a scaredy boy, but he was calmer and more willing to try new things when Geordie was with him. Human children may have security blankets, but Toby had a Security Geordie. I wonder sometimes if he might not be such an emotional mess if he still had a canine buddy.

The Bookshelf

Gosh guys, not being able to see well recently has really made me think about the clutter i have in my life.

*

I mean, if I couldn't see, how could I even start to sort through books? Would I still want any of these/ Might someone come read them to me?

*

Some of these books were new when I go them. they were cutting edge research. Maybe a histlry major would be interested in the now. Or an archaeologist.

*

Some of these books were gifts, so they are very dear to me, yet if I am honest with myself, I will likely never read them again.

*

Humans are so ridiculously sentimental. I mean, we dogs destroy our toys all the tme and don't give it a second thought. Hush your mouth! Blue Puppy is a national treasure!

*

The thought of my overcrowded bookshelf weighed heavily on my mind, yet it was painful to consider giving away something as significant as a book. Still, I forced myself to start the difficult task and set aside a few volumes that I no longer needed.

Then I woke up.

Crap!!!

So sometimes you dream of the devil, and sometimes you dream about cleaning bookshelves? (Humans are so weird.)

Mike Tyson vs. Batman

What happened to you? Did you lose a fight with Mike Tyson? Are you Red Batman? What makes it even funnier is that I can pick on you all I want, and you can't smack me or you risk scraping your knuckles and having another reaction. Mwahahaha!

*

Fwack!

*

I guess I forgot that humans can use tools.

In real life I look even worse than in these pictures. My camera seems to want to color correct. I guess “lobster” isn’t deemed an appropriate color for a human.

Mommy says I have to tell everyone that she has never raised a paw to me in real life.

Yeah, we live kind of close to East Palestine.

I like my tail, but I’m happy with just one.

Toby’s Grumpy Christmas

Aaagh!!
What's the matter? I am so angry! I didn't get what I asked for this Christmas.
Wht did you ask for? Bitches and Ho Hos. Did you mean "ho's"?
No, "Ho Hos". I like frozen Ho Hos.
Then what are you doing with mom's stocking? I'm off to make her some homemade "coal".
But why? Well it's obvious Santa doesn't care about puppies, but maybe he'll listen if a human tells him something.

Toby is usually gentle with his toys. Geordie was the one who dealt with stress by destroying stuffed animals. At Christmas, Toby was so agitated by lack of exercise and being unable to poo that he destroyed his gifts as soon as he got them. (Then he went back to the tree looking for more.)

He was really upset when I had to finally take the tree down. I think he was hoping more gifts might appear.

(Sorry. Dopey mommy got tendonitis and is behind in her storytelling as a result.)

Toby Comments on Thanksgiving Dinner

The strings in these string beans are so tough they're more like guy wires.
You know "guy wire" yet you still sometimes forget and poop in the house?

I do NOT poop in the house. Don’t listen to her.

While waiting for an appointment with a neurologist, I may have accidentally stumbled onto what’s been wrong with my arms and hands. Mind you I have described these symptoms to half a dozen doctors yet no one brought this up as a possibility.

In the mornings, I wake up with what I refer to as “Barbie arms”. They are paralyzed – frozen in one position. I can’t move my hands or bend my arms. It makes things difficult because I need to use eye drops as soon as I wake, but I can’t pick them up. Also, trying to use the bathroom is quite challenging. Sometimes my arms and hands hurt badly, sometimes not as much. My arms are weak so that I can’t hold them up unless I concentrate it. Last year I had to buy an electric jar opener (not can opener) because I could not grip a lid.

Each doctor I’ve talked to has thought this to be MS, but of all my symptoms, I thought this one was a bad match because the pain and paralysis depended on what I was doing.

Finally my pain started localizing on my upper arms. Out of curiosity I looked up that part of the arm and learned that the ulnar nerve is located there. Compression of this nerve can cause cubital tunnel syndrome – a very common relative of carpal tunnel syndrome. So why did no doctor recognize it? I’ve told everyone to the point where I’m sure they are sick of the sound of my voice.

I found some stretching exercises online that are supposed to help with this syndrome. I know that the root of my problem is related to sleeping position, and I don’t know how to fix that, but maybe these exercises can give me some of my life back.

Yet another thing to be grateful for this Thanksgiving!

Hope all of our Bitey World friends had a nice Thanksgiving too (even if it wasn’t technically Thanksgiving in your country)!
