Requiem for a Squash

This industrious pumpkin planted itself early in the spring. Once it blossomed, the fruit doubled in size nearly every day. This is how big the determined pumpkin got before cutworms got the better of it.

I don’t know what my heartbroken little Toby will do when fall arrives.

I’ll tell you what I’ll do. I’ll make you go to the store and buy me some pumpkins!!!

Caught in the Act

Toby was so pleased with himself chewing off the pumpkin’s stem…until when he wanted to pick it up and carry it around. Then he had no way to grasp it. Did he learn? I’m sure he didn’t.

After Toby had his fun with the pumpkin, I washed it off, cut it up into pieces and froze it for him to eat later. Now the humble decorative pumpkin can help to keep my boy regular for weeks to come.

On Wednesday mom had to turn the compost. She let me in the garden with her but told me not to pee on the cabbages. I didn’t. I was a good boy. Instead I peed on my leash. Then while she tried to grab a non-peey part of my leash, I ran over and stuck my head in compost juice. (Her mix is too green and not enough brown so it smells very, very nasty…just the way we puppies like it.)

This day was so perfect! Nothing could possibly spoil it.

Oh, wait. Something can.

Geordie Update:

Sleepy Cairn terrier after finishing his meal.

My left side looks a little funny because I have to use corn oil based eye drops, and it gets on my fur.

Geordie surprised us all again this week.  He was in such bad shape a few days ago that I thought I might have to make the type of decision for him that I didn’t want to.  It was obvious that he was sick and in pain.  Grandpa decided to get him some CBD oil to try just to see if it might help.

I gave Geordie only a quarter dose at first to make sure he didn’t have a reaction to it.  Not only didn’t he have a reaction, he demanded more oil right away.  Then he demanded food.  Then he demanded to go outside.  Then he demanded a chance to sun himself.  Wow.  Any time Geordie is bossing me around is a good day!

The woman who sold the oil said that the effects are cumulative and not to expect much right away.  This is either the second or third day that he has been taking it, and already he is demanding to go on walks.  Amazing!

Next week, I am heading out looking for some CBD oil of my own.

Come a little closer, dearies….

Back when it was just Geordie and me, we used to carve pumpkins together.

Geordie and the Pumpkin 1

He would climb inside the pumpkins as I would try to work and try to eat them from the inside out.    Since Toby has come along, things have been too chaotic to try any holiday decorating.  I feel bad that my little guy hasn’t had a chance to climb inside his own pumpkin.

If only he were Peter, Peter Pumpkin-Eater’s dog….
