Things That Go Bump In The Night

*

The other night I was tossing and turning, trying to get to sleep. Suddenly there was a thump and a bump from under my bed. Rather than being afraid, it made me smile. I had forgotten that when Geordie would sleep under the bed, he would bonk his head as he moved around. My little boy had come to visit and had given me exactly what I needed to find peace.

Thank you, stinky man.

Shh…you’re not supposed to see me!

Dream Our World

A good way to spend hot summer days is indoors reading Dream Our World! (Plus, proceeds help Murphy’s Biscuit Fund.)

Inside, Geordie and Toby view the world of art from a canine perspective while enjoying a day of unsupervised fun. There are a lot of hidden gems inside Dream Our World, and it is a joy for all ages. Treat yourself to a summer read that is both fun and educational!

Dream Our World, and other fine gifts, are available from my shop at L Bowman Studios.

I was hoping that Cousin Doogie would entice Murphy to play, but Murphy seemed determined to nap his way through the weekend. Why didn’t I get any pictures of them together? This was about as close as they got the whole time. Both turned out to be shy guys who preferred to stay near familiar humans.

(The next time I or anyone in my family adopts a dog, I think I am going to insist they get a Westie. Then all I will have to draw are eyes and a nose and not fuss with all these colors!)

I wasn’t ignoring you. You just weren’t very interesting.

What Would Happen If….

I wonder what my boys would do at a museum? ....and so concludes our broadcast of famous museums around the world.

In Dream Our World, you are invited on an extraordinary journey of the imagination where Bitey and Toby visit the museum of their dreams. The exhibits at the MOTI have the unique twist of being depicted as the pups see them. And how is that? With the boys front and center, of course!

Bitey and Toby’s story is told in pictures, not in words. Let the paintings speak to you. Let your mind tell the story. Most of all, have fun!

I am both happy and sad to have this book done. I have been working on it so long that it feels like a part of me.  Inside, I have constructed a world made of pieces of my neighborhood mixed with drawings of my pups’ actual personalities.  If you read it, I hope that you enjoy the adventure!

A Spot on the X Ray

Cairn terrier sits surrounded by Christmas toys.

I am still so upset that I don’t know how to process the information yet.  Real Life Bitey went to the vet today, and they found a spot on his lung.  If it weren’t for an occasional cough, I would say he was in great health.  He is very active and playful and everything a pup should be.

The vet had to send the X ray out to be read, so it will be several days before there is news about the spot.  It could be pneumonia (they gave him antibiotics just in case) or it could be something worse.

If you have a spare prayer for us today, we would really appreciate it.

The Dog Ate Your Homework

Little Cairn Terrier chews a piece of paper.

I think Toby may have just won the Naughtiest Dog award for the month.

Over the holiday, family was visiting from out of town.  My SIL is a primary school teacher and brought some papers to grade over on her Christmas break.  As she was going over the children’s work, Toby decided to help himself to some papers to chew on and play “run around the house”.  I told my SIL to tell the children that reindeer had gotten to their homework.  Instead she took a photo of my naughty puppy caught red-tounged with papers in his mouth to show the students that the dog ate their homework!  (That excuse doesn’t work for kids, but for some reason it does for teachers.)

I’m still not sure how, but Toby got toys and treats from Santa.  He must have a very high tolerance for bad behavior in canines.

Butterflies

I have a friend who says that puppies' souls come back to visit their mommies as butterflies.

Butterflies 2

Perhaps that is why my boys enjoy chasing butterflies so much…they sense a kindred spirit.

Coming Soon!  Bitey and his little brother Toby will have their own book.  I got a proof back from the printer yesterday, but there had been a problem with compression when the manuscript was sent.  I fixed that and resubmitted, so hopefully it will be good enough to approve next time!
