If the Great Pumpkin shows up, I get to eat him, right?

(Even the docents at the museum were impressed with the amount of research I put into the book. Come on, give it a try. It would make a great gift for someone you love!)
I’m not sure if the Great Pumpkin will visit us, but it looks like the Great Horned Owl did.
This year my garden yielded mostly rabbits and bugs. The exception was that I did get pumpkins. I took this picture while I was still harvesting them, so this isn’t their full number. In all I picked 49.
(Off to the left is what happens if you don’t pick zucchini in time.)
*
Can we go visit the garden?
*
While the pumpkins were in the garden, Murphy didn’t seem to realize what they were. He was more interested in the rotten tomatoes.
*
When I moved the pumpkins to the porch, he still didn’t seem to recognize what they were.
Once I started bringing them inside to cook them, he suddenly noticed them. Now he is a total pest wanting more, more, more. (I tried handing him one of the smaller pumpkins to play with or eat, but he turned his nose up at it. He wanted it cooked first.)
Gimme! Gimme! That’s dog food. I know it!

Totally unrelated to Toby’s tooting, I recently saw an ad for Windows 11 and thought I would read a little about it. Turns out that “older computers might not be compatible with the upgrade”. Oops, I guess you’ll just have to get a new computer. Hmmm, what genius came up with this idea? Electronics are about as rare as unicorns these days. Will new computers just float across the Pacific and land in our stores? With the cost of food and fuel skyrocketing, who has hundreds or thousands to shell out for a new computer?
In my neighborhood, you can’t find canned pumpkin. The only vegetable in the store freezers is broccoli. A neighbor is trying to get his lawn mower fixed, but he can’t due to a parts shortage. The last thing Americans need is to worry about a new computer. I’m more concerned about food…and toothpaste. (And kibble! – Toby)

My boys are still at large at the museum, unsupervised. If you would like to see what they have been up to while everyone is gone, pick up a copy of Dream Our World. Inside, the pups visit the Museum of the Imagination and view the world of art from a canine perspective.
If you have someone in your life who could use a big “Thank You”, consider giving them one of these thoughtful hand-painted hankies. Not only are they reusable and eco-friendly, they are also topical.
Hankies are $8.00+shipping. You can contact me about them here or at my website L Bowman Studios.
I’m feeling nostalgic, so I am going to remember last year…
There was surprisingly little discoloration
for the amount of swelling.
And yellow is the reason why.
I mean, these are the culprit homicidal boots.
(They look so innocent, don’t they?)
As an act of kindness and self-sacrifice – because you know that’s how my boy is – Toby decided to help me with tilling this year. He says he wants to save me wear and tear on my boots. (You can’t tell from the photos, but some of those holes are big enough to hide a 20+ pound terrier.)
Toby was disappointed when he found out we are growing “peas”.
That’s not the “P” word I was hoping for.

If you know a bookstore or shop where Dream Our World might fit, please let me know! I would love to introduce Bitey and The Usurper to even more humans.
In Dream Our World, Bitey and Toby visit the Museum of the Imagination and view the world of art from a canine perspective. And how is that? – With themselves front and center, of course!
Yes, this was my week. For some reason, bad things are easier to deal with in Bitey World, so I put it here.
I told my neighbor that it really says something about my place in the community that I can lie face down in a puddle of mud in the middle of the street, and people just drive by. Am I like the town drunk where this type of behavior is expected?
I was fortunate that this accident happened only a short distance from where I live. After landing on first my knees, then my face I was still able to hobble home. I was planning to plant the tiny oak in a clearing next to the sideways tree, but he didn’t withstand the trauma of flying. So sorry little one; I tried.
The puppies have been totally disgusted that we have had beautiful weather all week, and they haven’t been outside to enjoy any of it. Their frustrations finally boiled over today. Geordie poked me repeatedly with his nose while Toby beat me with his toy moon. Thanks for the sympathy guys.
For a pleasant distraction, pick up a copy of Dream Our World. Inside, Bitey and Toby spend a day at the museum of their dreams.
The book has a number of inside jokes (to me, anyway). One is that the “Additional Artists” are all really me. If you note their names, they are the letters of my name rearranged. If you like my work and would like to commission your own piece of artwork, please visit my store for more examples.
I keep hoping a deer will fall in the hole and never want to come back to the garden!
It’s tough to get a decent picture of a hole: they are not particularly photogenic. I hope this picture does justice to the huge hole that Toby dug this afternoon.
More than Geordie, Toby really enjoys being a dog. He loves digging holes and playing in mud. He likes chasing birds and catching tennis balls. Geordie has always been fussy about his demeanor and appearance. I’ve often said that if life were the TV show Frasier, Geordie would be Frasier and Toby would be Eddie.
Until recently, Toby has been able to get away with being the goofy puppy. Geordie was more practiced at everything and always led. Toby could afford to slack off and be the little clown. Once he realized that the humans knew that Geordie had a problem, though, he immediately stepped up to be such a wonderful, helpful boy. He pays attention to my moods now. He is much more patient with things like being groomed. I hug him often and tell him how much I appreciate all his help, but I don’t want him to stop being my goofy little puppy yet. As life gets back to normal, I want him to keep misbehaving.
